Fuel Coffee Shop

Retail & Beverage Branding

When longtime clients David and Danielle Hulton acquired Fuel Coffee, a beloved Seattle coffee shop chain with over a decade of history, they needed more than a facelift. They needed a brand that could honor what Fuel already was while making clear what it was becoming – a neighborhood destination now proudly part of the Ada’s Technical Books family.

We developed a brand that sharpened Fuel’s positioning around three core promises: 1) fast & friendly service, 2) consistently great coffee, and 3) a welcoming space. Our discovery got clear on who Fuel is for – curious, local-proud coffee lovers who aren’t snobs about it. And crystallized a distinct point of view – high-quality specialty coffee, without the pretense. The result was a collection of brand headlines, talking points, interior design direction, color palette, typography exploration, and a vision moodboard that gave the whole team a creative north star.

From there, we developed the full brand platform – translating that vision into ready-to-use assets. That meant a logo direction, a retro-inspired color palette, a typography system, and a suite of branded headlines and copy blocks for every context. We mocked up a website homepage, social templates, onboarding decks, in-store signage, and coffee packaging. We wrote distinct external and internal positioning – one for customers, one for new hires – so the brand could speak consistently whether someone was discovering Fuel for the first time or joining the team.
